York County Announces Official Conference Affiliation
With York County’s inaugural athletic seasons only months away, we are thrilled to announce our new memberships in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and with the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). These new memberships provide conference and national championship opportunities as well as both academic and athletic recognition opportunities for student-athletes.

The USCAA is a national athletic organization that consists of numerous small colleges across the United States. This national association gives student-athletes the opportunity to compete in national championships and invitationals, as well as the opportunity to be recognized as National Players of the Week, Academic All-Americans and Athletic All-Americans. The USCAA aims to level the playing field for small colleges such as York County.

The YSCC, which consists of fellow Maine Community College System schools, such as Central Maine Community College and Southern Maine Community College, promotes similar ideas and values as the USCAA as it,
“Recognizes the importance of small college athletic programs to help provide a positive intercollegiate experience for the member institutional athletic programs...the YSCC strives to create a student athlete whose contributions will extend beyond the playing fields, into the classroom, the college, and the larger community.”

YSCC’s President, Matt Richards, sees great value in the addition of York County Community College to the YSCC. President Richards emphasized,
“The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) is excited to be adding York County Community College (YCCC) as its 10th member of the conference. Under the leadership of President Mike Fischer and Associate Dean Jennifer Laney, YCCC is positioned very well to add on the conference’s outstanding student athlete experience and competitive play providing a premier regional athletic conference within the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. YCCC is strategically located within our conference geographical footprint and will strengthen the conference offerings both immediately and with YCCC’s strategic plan as a college.“
With both the USCAA and YSCC missions in mind, it is important to recognize the role these conference affiliations will play in the York County athletic department achieving the purpose and mission of the college. York County’s purpose, which is to inspire and empower students and communities to thrive, goes along with their values of innovation, empowerment, accountability, and cooperation. York County emphasizes the experience of each and every student, which can be greatly enhanced throughout their new induction of athletic teams and our conference affiliations.
York County’s new athletic teams include: co-ed golf, softball, baseball, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track and field; which all are set to commence this Fall 2021. York County’s new athletic website will be released in the coming months.
