Wells, Maine is the city of gold today, as York County Community College's track and field team returns from the YSCC conference meet with eight first place medals.
For the women, it was a laundry list of first place finishes. The heaviest neck belonged to Amy Stults, who brought home first place in the 800-meter run, the 1500-meter run, and the 5k. "I'm excited to compete at nationals next weekend," said Amy. "Last year I came in third place, this year the goal is first place.
"I'm going into this race with an open mind. No limitations. I'm going to leave it all out there. Can't wait to see what happens!" The national race will be Amy's final race as a member member of YCCC, as she is set to graduate from her nursing program in May.
Joining Amy in the women's winners circle were Blair Martin and Izze Gray. Blair set a personal record, jumping 4.47 meters in the long jump event, earning her a first-place finish. Izze walked away with a pair of golds, winning the shot put and hammer throw competitions. Her 9.76m in the shot put and 36.49m in the hammer throw were both school records.
The men walked away with two gold medals, both courtesy of Michael Crosby. Michael ran the 110m hurdles in 17.46 seconds and set a personal record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.03. At last year's national event, Michael placed third in the 400m hurdles, this year he plans to finish higher. "I'm not walking away without gold this year," said Michael. "My goal is to get my time down to a minute flat. I think that puts me in a good position."
The USCAA National Championship is set for April 29th at Hampshire College in Springfield, Mass.
