Hawks Pitcher Named All American Honorable Mention
In a press release that was sent out on Sunday night, YCCC Pitcher James Erickson was named USCAA All-American Honorable Mention.
Erickson had a workhorse-type season for the Hawks, throwing 59.2 innings across 13 apperances on the mound. His 7 Wins were good for tops in the conference and third in the USCAA, while his ERA (2.72) and Innings Pitched both ranked 9th in the nation.
"James was an absolute dog for us" said Assistant Coach Hunter Leroux-Porter. "Kid really came out of his shell and deserved all the success he realized over the season."
"Couldn't be happier for Jimmy" added Head Coach Zack Robinson. "Nobody outworked him this offseason, and that's how you go from a 17 innings guy as a Freshman, to being in consideration for All-American the very next year. Jimmy would send me texts at 9, 10 at night, with just pictures of the treadmill to show me that he was grinding. He earned the right to be called an Ace, and he sets the standard for everyone who steps on that mound."
When asked about being named as an Honorable Mention, Erickson responded "I feel like I've grown a lot in the last 18 months, both as a player and a person. There's been a shift in mentality and that's thanks to my coaches adn teammates always pushing me. Next year, I'll be first team."
Erickson, a Dean's list student for two of the previous three semesters, returns to the Hawks next season, and looks to lead the team to its first conference championship.
